Operating seven feeding clubs across Lima, El Camino Kids offers children a safe place where they are welcomed, known, and deeply cared for. ​During our visit to the club in Comas, we’ll meet the inspiring staff, spend meaningful time with the children, and learn how they serve up hope, faithfully and joyfully, every day of the week.

Peru is home to the iconic Machu Picchu, the vibrant city of Lima, the Amazon rainforest, and the Andes Mountains, ​​​​​​​offering travelers a diverse blend of ancient Incan history, breathtaking landscapes, and world-renowned cuisine.

We'll fly to Iquitos and board 'La Perla" for a three-night river cruise.

Travel to the Andes Mountains

We'll fly to Cusco and spend the remaining days of the trip exploring the colonial city,
​​​​​​​mountain communities and the epic Machu Picchu.

  • Spend time with a special family of alpaca farmers and learn about their livelihood of wool production and weaving.
  • Spend an entire day on our Machu Picchu Adventure! We'll travel to this sacred site in the Vistadome Observatory train and explore the ancient ruins with a local guide. You'll also have time to explore Machu Picchu Town before heading back to our hotel.

Day One//August 22: Welcome to Peru! 
You'll be welcomed at the airport with a private driver. Make your way to the artsy neighborhood of Barranco. After getting settled in, meet the group on the rooftop for a welcome drink and orientation. We'll walk to dinner, taking in some points of interest along the way.

Day Two//August 23: Explore the City of Kings

Today, we're exploring the wonders of Lima, from the historic center and eerie catacombs to famous parks and delicious local dishes. Today will also include a visit to the Museo Larco, housing one of the largest private collections of pre-Columbian art.

Day Three//August 24: Inspiration and Culture
Today we’ll spend the morning with one of our cherished do-good partners, El Camino, serving the community of Comas. It’s always a meaningful time to learn from their work and connect with the kids they support. Later in the afternoon, we’ll head to the vibrant Miraflores neighborhood to enjoy a delicious lunch and take in its well-known coastal views, colorful streets, and lively atmosphere.

Day Four//August 25: Jet off to the Amazon
We’ll transfer to the Lima airport before catching our flight to the gateway of the Amazon—Iquitos! After landing, we’ll head to our hotel to get settled, followed by a special visit and conversation with a local community member. We’ll end the day with a memorable dinner.

Day Five//August 26: Embarkation
This morning, we’ll explore the vibrant Belén local market with expert guides, discovering the many exotic foods and unique items found only in this region. Afterward, we’ll travel downriver to Nauta to board La Perla. Get ready—your next few days will be filled with unparalleled Amazon beauty and the warm, genuine hospitality that La Perla is known for.

Day Six//August 27: Adventure on the Amazon
Each day aboard La Perla will feature two to three excursions into the heart of the Amazon. You’ll visit indigenous villages, search for wildlife along the shoreline and high in the trees, try your hand at piranha fishing, and enjoy a few unforgettable surprises along the way!

Day Eight//August 29: Welcome to Cusco!

Today, we say goodbye to our floating home as we head back to the Iquitos airport, preparing for our next adventure in the lively city of Cusco.

Spend the morning unwinding and adjusting to the altitude of the Andes. This afternoon, we’ll delve into the region's history by going on a city tour, enhancing our knowledge of our new destination.

Day Ten//August 31: It's all About Community
Today, we will embark on a journey to the Sacred Valley, specifically Patacancha, a small Incan community, which is home to a special family we will spend the day with.

Day Eleven//September 1: The Pinnacle - Machu Picchu!
Today’s adventure takes us aboard the scenic Vistadome train, winding through dramatic valleys and lush Andes landscapes on our way to Machu Picchu Town. Once we arrive, a local expert guide will lead us through 3–4 unforgettable hours exploring the legendary citadel—its terraces, temples, hidden corners, and breathtaking views. After soaking in the magic of Machu Picchu, you’ll have some free time to enjoy the charm of the town before we journey back by train. It’s a day you’ll remember forever.

Day Twelve//September 2: Adios, Sacred Valley!
You’ll have your morning to kick back and chill or visit more ancient ruins! After that, we’ll enjoy a farm-to-table lunch before heading back to the colorful vibes of Cusco, where we'll participate in a hands-on cooking class, learning the secrets of Peruvian cuisine.

With a multitude of options available... select your own adventure for the day. Your tour leader will be ready to assist you in organizing it. We'll gather together for a finale dinner and a chance to share about the days' adventures!

Day Fourteen//September 4: Our Return to Lima
Today we’ll say farewell to Cusco after one last delicious lunch together. Once back in Lima, we’ll gather for tapas and drinks, sharing stories and memories, before guests begin departing on their evening flights home. A perfect ending to an unforgettable journey!

Many flights from Lima depart late at night. If your flight leaves the following morning, we can help arrange accommodations at a nearby airport hotel for a comfortable overnight stay.

Debra Ryan has been traveling to Peru since her early 20s, forming a deep and enduring love for the country, its culture, and its people. With this lifelong connection, Debra will serve as the Travel on Purpose Ambassador for the Peru Journey, offering travelers a meaningful bridge between place, people, and purpose.

In 2000, Debra's father began working in Lima, Peru, through El Camino Ministries, his grassroots nonprofit dedicated to serving marginalized people with a hot meal and the gift of hope. Today, Debra continues this legacy, carrying the torch forward and ensuring the ministry remains vibrant and rooted in community.

As part of the itinerary, travelers will visit El Camino Ministries one morning, providing a window into everyday life in Peru and an opportunity to engage with people making a tangible difference in their community.

Cancellations & Refunds: 


We strongly recommend purchasing cancellation insurance at the time of booking to protect your investment. In addition, when booking your flight, be sure to book a fare that allows for cancellations or changes.

  • 120 Days or more before departure: 50% of the amount you've paid (minus the deposit) can be applied toward a future trip.

  • 90 Days or more before departure: 25% of the amount you've paid (minus the deposit) can be applied toward a future trip.

  • 60 Days or more before departure: No refund or credit of any kind.

  • NO REFUNDS: If you leave the trip after it has started, fail to join it, join after the departure, or leave before its completion, no refunds or credits will be issued for unused services.

The Vistadome train will be used for the visit to Machu Picchu, and walking around the site is manageable for most people.

Q: What is the rooming situation like?
A: Price is based on double-occupancy, so we recommend signing up with a friend. Twin bedrooms are possible throughout the trip. If you are a solo traveler and would like your own private room, let us know. This can be accommodated at an additional fee.

Q: What are the hotels like?
A: Accommodations for the trip will include charming boutique hotels, historic hotels, local inns, and a river cruise. 


Q: Is travel insurance required and where can I get it?
Travel insurance is required to participate in this group tour. You can check your credit card benefits to see if they meet the requirement.
We will provide a list of recommended travel insurance companies that you can purchase a plan from.


Q: Can I arrive earlier and/or stay longer?
A: Of course! Let us know if we can assist with hotel bookings or a suggested itinerary.

Q: Is there any volunteering involved?
A: No. While some Travel on Purpose trips include small amounts of volunteering, this tour is about learning. We will spend time with our do-good partners, learn about their important work, and support their efforts through a donation that is built into the cost of the tour.


Q: What is the food like?
A:
One of the best parts of our trips is the community we build around the table. Peru is known for it’s unique cuisine. We are able to accommodate minor food allergies and restrictions with advanced notice. Please note that serious allergies may be more difficult to accommodate. Please contact us for more information.

Q: Why are some meals not included?
Several lunches and dinners are not included in this tour. Travel days with airport transfers do not include meals so that guests can decide for themselves where to eat in the airport. In addition, not including several meals gives you some free time with your travel companion to explore independently. 


Q: What if I have to cancel?
A: We strongly recommend purchasing cancellation insurance at the time of booking to protect your investment. In addition, when booking your flight, be sure to book a fare that allows for cancellations or changes. Tour deposits are non-refundable.
