Lima, the vibrant capital of Peru, is a city where colonial charm meets modern flair, offering world-class cuisine, rich history, and stunning coastal views. As the gateway to Peru’s diverse landscapes, Lima invites travelers to explore its bustling markets, historic plazas, and the vibrant energy of its neighborhoods.

Peru is home to the iconic Machu Picchu, the vibrant city of Lima, the Amazon rainforest, and the Andes Mountains, offering travelers a diverse blend of ancient Incan history, breathtaking landscapes, and world-renowned cuisine.


Embark on an Amazon River Cruise


We'll fly to Iquitos and board 'La Perla" for a three-night river cruise.

Travel to the Andes Mountains

We'll fly to Cusco and spend the remaining days of the trip exploring the colonial city, mountain communities and the epic Machu Picchu.

 

Highlights Include: 

  • Explore colonial Cusco on a city tour.
  • Spend time with a special family of alpaca farmers and learn about their livelihood of wool production and weaving.
  • Spend an entire day on our Machu Picchu Adventure! We'll travel to this sacred site in the Vistadome Observatory train and explore the ancient ruins with a local guide. You'll also have time to explore Machu Picchu Town before heading back to our hotel.
  • *Enjoy a free day in Cusco to explore on your own, shop, or visit Rainbow Mountain.

Day One//August 21: Welcome to Peru! 
Transportation will be all set when you land, and then it's time to kick back for a casual welcome dinner!

Day Two//August 22: Explore the City of Kings

Today, we're exploring the wonders of Lima, from the historic center and eerie catacombs to famous parks and delicious local dishes.

Day Three//August 23: Jet off to the Amazon!
Today, we’re off to the airport again, bound for Iquitos— the portal city to the jungle and the enchanting tribal villages of the Amazon.

Day Four//August 24: Community Development & Amazon Introduction
Today we head to Nauta to meet our friends at ‘Minga’ and learn about the incredible work they are doing. Then it is on to ‘La Perla’, our Amazon River cruise for the next three days!

Day Five//August 25: Flora & Fauna of the Amazon
Experience the world’s largest river — and biggest rainforest — on a voyage of discovery aboard the riverboat La Perla. The adventure includes an amazing array of flora and fauna encounters.

Day Six//August 26: Adventure on the Amazon
Our adventure continues with land explorations in indigenous communities along the Amazon.

Day Seven//August 27: Travel Day
Today, we say goodbye to our floating home and we head back to the Iquitos airport, preparing for our next adventure in the lively city of Cusco.

Day Eight//August 28: Welcome to Cusco!

Spend the morning unwinding and adjusting to the altitude of the Andes. This afternoon, we’ll delve into the region's history by going on a city tour, enhancing our knowledge of our new destination.

Day Nine//August 29It’s All About Community
Today, we will embark on a journey to the Sacred Valley, specifically Patacancha, a small Incan community, which is home to a special family we will spend the day with.

Day Ten//August 30: The Pinnacle - Machu Picchu!
We’ll embark on a train journey to Machu Picchu Town, followed by 3-4 hours exploring the citadel. Following our visit, we will enjoy some leisure time in the town before returning by train.

Day Eleven//August 31: Adios, Sacred Valley!
You’ll have your morning to kick back and chill or visit more ancient ruins! After that, we’ll enjoy a farm-to-table lunch before heading back to the colorful vibes of Cusco.

With a multitude of options available... select your own adventure for the day. Your tour leader will be ready to assist you in organizing it.

Day Thirteen//September 2: Lima, here we come again!
Today, we’re returning to Lima, but not before enjoying one last lunch together in Cusco. We’ll have a final toast in Lima, where we can reflect on our favorite memories.

This tour will be led by Dianne Sivulka, founder of Travel on Purpose, and Kim Hackbarth, co-founder of Alma Travel Group.

Your experience will include time spent with do-good partners, changemakers, and local leaders who are making a meaningful difference in their communities. Dianne is passionate about immersive travel and inspiring others to step out of their comfort zones to explore the world. She believes travel should challenge our assumptions, broaden our perspectives, and help us appreciate the way people live in different parts of the world.

Kim is dedicated to building community and supporting local initiatives, especially those focused on caring for the environment. Originally from Wisconsin, Kim has made Costa Rica her home for many years. Alma Travel Group specializes in creating immersive experiences in Peru, Guatemala, and Costa Rica.

Dianne and Kim met in 2017 through a non-profit organization in Costa Rica and have been collaborating on travel experiences ever since.

Cancellations & Refunds: 


We strongly recommend purchasing cancellation insurance at the time of booking to protect your investment. In addition, when booking your flight, be sure to book a fare that allows for cancellations or changes.

  • Deposit: Deposits are non-refundable.

  • 120 Days or more before departure: 50% of the amount you've paid (minus the deposit) can be applied toward a future trip.

  • 90 Days or more before departure: 25% of the amount you've paid (minus the deposit) can be applied toward a future trip.

  • 60 Days or more before departure: No refund or credit of any kind.

  • NO REFUNDS: If you leave the trip after it has started, fail to join it, join after the departure, or leave before its completion, no refunds or credits will be issued for unused services.

Q: What is the cost?
A: $5750 per person

Q: What is the rooming situation like?
A: Price is based on double-occupancy, so we recommend signing up with a friend. Twin bed rooms are possible throughout the trip. If you are a solo traveler and would like your own private room, let us know. This can be accommodated at an additional fee.

Q: What are the hotels like?
A: Accommodations for the trip will include boutique hotels, historic hotels, local inns, a river cruise, and an airport hotel the night before departure. Every place is considered 4-star or above.

Q: When should I book my airfare? 
A: Once you register and pay your deposit, you'll receive an email confirmation and tips on booking your airfare. A recommendation can be made based on where you're traveling from. Airfare can be purchased anytime. Generally speaking, international flights should be booked 6-12 months before travel. 
When you book your flight, we recommend booking a fare that can be changed or refunded in case you need to cancel.

Q: Is travel insurance required and where can I get it?
Travel insurance is required to participate in this group tour. You can check your credit card benefits to see if they meet the requirement.
We will provide a list of recommended travel insurance companies that you can purchase a plan from.


Q: When do I need to arrive in Lima? When does the tour officially begin?
A: Our tour will begin with a welcome dinner in Lima on August 21, 2025. Plan to arrive at 
LIM (Jorge Chavez International Airport) by midday or early afternoon.

Q: When is the tour officially over? What is the earliest I can book my departure flight?
A: The tour officially ends on September 3, 2025. Depart anytime.

Q: Can I arrive earlier and/or stay longer?
A: Of course! Let us know if we can assist in hotel bookings or a suggested itinerary.

Q: Is there any volunteering involved?
A: No. While some Travel on Purpose trips include small amounts of volunteering, this tour is about learning. We will spend time with our do-good partners, learn about their important work, and support their efforts through a donation that is built into the cost of the tour.


Q: What is the food like?
A:
One of the best parts of our trips is the community we build around the table. Peru is known for it’s unique cuisine. We are able to accommodate food allergies and restrictions with advanced notice.

Q: Why are some meals not included?
There are several lunches and dinners not included on this tour. Travel days with airport transfers do not include meals so that guests can decide for themselves where to eat in the airport. In addition, not including several meals gives you some free time with your travel companion to explore on your own. 


Q: What if I have to cancel?
A: We strongly recommend purchasing cancellation insurance at the time of booking to protect your investment. In addition, when booking your flight, be sure to book a fare that allows for cancellations or changes. Tour deposits are non-refundable.
