Itinerary Highlights

Community

While much of this experience is dedicated to personal rest and reflection, the community among travelers on the Camino de Santiago undoubtedly will stand out as a highlight. A profound sense of community is created as diverse pilgrims navigate its ancient paths. Through shared meals and moments, many steps and communal rest, the Camino becomes an experience of community that resonates long after the journey's end.

Rest

The Camino de Santiago offers a sanctuary of rest amid its captivating trails. Through rhythmic steps and scenic vistas, a tranquil atmosphere is created, inviting your soul to take a pause. Away from the hustle of daily life, the pilgrimage becomes a meditative journey, allowing minds to unwind and find clarity.

Reflection

Historically, this a sacred journey, offering pilgrims a profound opportunity for quiet introspection, spiritual reflection, and a place to find solace to delve into their inner selves. Whether walking in solitude or sharing stories with fellow travelers, the Camino provides a unique environment for spiritual growth, opening a door to self-discovery and a deeper connection with God.
“Most of us are more tired than we know at the soul level. We are teetering on the brink of dangerous exhaustion, and we cannot do anything else until we have gotten some rest...we can't really engage [any spiritual disciplines] until solitude becomes a place of rest for us rather than another place for human striving and hard work.”

― Ruth Haley Barton, Sacred Rhythms: Arranging Our Lives for Spiritual Transformation

Who is this trip for?

This journey is crafted for women who are drawn to pilgrimage—a time to seek spiritual renewal, rest, and reflection within a supportive community. It offers a unique opportunity to step away from daily routines, connect deeply with others, and engage with a sacred landscape that has inspired travelers for centuries. Participants should be in good physical condition, prepared to walk 10–15 miles each day over the course of six consecutive days, embracing both the challenge and the transformative rhythm of the pilgrimage.

Do I have to identify as a Christian to attend?

Everyone is welcome, no matter your faith tradition or background. Please note that spiritual practices, including Bible reading and prayer, will be offered at the retreat center and may come up in conversation during the trip. If you’re open to these experiences—even if God has felt distant—you’ll find a warm, inviting space and an opportunity to encounter His presence.

How can I prepare to walk this far?

We’ll provide a detailed training schedule, a comprehensive gear list, and guidance through emails and a couple of Zoom meetings before the journey. With proper preparation, you’ll be ready to enjoy the pilgrimage with confidence. And rest assured, we have a safety plan in place to offer support on the trail whenever it’s needed.

Know what you're siging up for!

At Travel on Purpose™, each trip is thoughtfully designed for a specific comfort and activity level, so you know what to expect and can fully enjoy your experience. Our Camino de Santiago pilgrimage is rated Level Three for Comfort and Level Three for Activity. In other words, we're going to work hard and then enjoy some very nice hotels, meals, and experiences.

The comfort rating reflects accommodations: while we’ll spend one night in apartments, most stays are in charming boutique hotels, country inns or luxurious historic hotels, typically rated 4 stars.

The activity rating reflects the walking: participants should be prepared to walk 10–15 miles a day for six consecutive days.
