Optional Add-On: Arrive a day early to unwind and enjoy more time at the Ole Sereni. This extra night is available for $195 per room (based on double occupancy).
After breakfast, we’ll venture to Karen, a charming suburb of Nairobi, for a day full of memorable experiences. We’ll visit the Giraffe Center for up-close encounters with these gentle giants, enjoy a delicious farm-to-table lunch, and get a taste of East Africa’s rich artistic traditions through local arts and crafts.
In the evening, we’ll gather for our official welcome dinner at Embark—a Kenyan-owned gem—where you’ll enjoy an intimate front porch meal paired with live music and warm hospitality.
After breakfast, we’ll visit the inspiring POD Project, a tailoring initiative with a unique model designed to empower women and girls through skills training and sustainable income.
Next, we’ll head to Provisions for a delicious lunch followed by an engaging afternoon workshop.
We’ll end the day with dinner at Talisman, one of Nairobi’s most beloved restaurants, before returning to the Ole Sereni for the night.
After breakfast, we’ll check out of the Ole Sereni and head to Anchor Leather & Craft for a hands-on workshop and lunch. This inspiring social enterprise—one of Travel on Purpose’s longest-standing partners—is creating dignified jobs for artisans from underserved communities.
In the afternoon, we’ll make our way to the Main Gate of Nairobi National Park, where a short transfer will take us to the beautiful Ololo Lodge. You’ll be warmly welcomed at this stunning safari property before heading out on an unforgettable afternoon game drive.
Start your day with an optional early morning game drive, then return for a hearty breakfast. Next, we’ll visit Sheldrick’s Elephant Nursery, where you’ll meet adorable orphaned elephants and learn how this remarkable NGO is rescuing and reintroducing them to life in the wild.
The rest of the day is yours to enjoy at your own pace—choose from an afternoon game drive, a guided tour of Ololo’s regenerative garden, or simply relax by the pool and take in the serene surroundings.
Begin your day with an optional early morning game drive, then return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast. Afterward, we’ll head to Nairobi’s Wilson Airstrip for a short regional flight to the legendary Masai Mara.
Our home for the next two nights is Masai Mara Basecamp, a luxury tented camp nestled inside the park. Here, you’ll enjoy world-class wildlife viewing and have the chance to connect with the local Maasai community through meaningful, culturally rich experiences.
Spend a full day immersed in the beauty and culture of the Masai Mara. At Basecamp, you’ll have the chance to explore the stunning Masai Mara National Reserve while also engaging with the Maasai community that lives along the Talek River.
The camp’s close relationship with the neighboring Maasai village offers a rare opportunity to gain authentic insight into savannah life and experience Maasai traditions in a meaningful way.
Because the camp is operated in partnership with the local community, your stay supports and reflects their way of life—giving you a deeper, more holistic connection to one of the world’s most remarkable wilderness areas. This is more than a safari—it’s a chance to learn from the people who call this extraordinary land home.
Today is a travel day as we bid farewell to the Masai Mara—and to Kenya. We'll journey back to Nairobi's Wilson Airstrip for the short flight back to Nairobi, then transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) for a short flight to Uganda.
Upon arrival, our friendly Ugandan team will greet us at the airport and escort us on a short drive to Karibu Guesthouse, a peaceful retreat overlooking Lake Victoria. This evening, enjoy a delicious three-course dinner and a restful night’s sleep as we prepare for the next leg of our East African adventure.
After breakfast, we’ll begin our journey with a stop at the Equator—perfect for some handicraft shopping, a classic photo opportunity, and a fun science demonstration showing how the Earth's hemispheres work.
From there, we’ll continue to the town of Masaka to visit Timothy Girls High School, where you’ll meet some of the students.
In the afternoon, we’ll tour Eco Brix, a social enterprise turning plastic waste into sustainable building materials. We’ll then make our way to the Kibaale Community Centre and Guest House, our home for the next part of the journey.
Settle in and relax at the Kibaale Community Centre, your home for the next couple of days. This vibrant hub is much more than a guest house—it’s a school, health clinic, coffee farm, and garden program, all working together to uplift the local community.
You’ll have the opportunity to tour the center, step into classrooms, and visit family homes to gain a deeper understanding of daily life and the inspiring work happening here.
Enjoy another full day at the Kibaale Community Centre, where you’ll have the chance to go deeper—building relationships with staff, visiting additional classrooms, and witnessing firsthand how this “well-oiled machine” is transforming lives.
Through education, healthcare, and community support, Kibaale is breaking the cycle of poverty and equipping the next generation of Ugandan leaders to rise with conviction, faith, and purpose.
After breakfast, we’ll head to Lake Mburo National Park, a scenic savannah landscape known for its unique walking safaris and the chance to spot wildlife along the water’s edge.
This stay is a true highlight—Mihingo Lodge, a luxurious tented retreat perched on a rocky outcrop. With its elevated rooms that feel like treehouses, you’ll enjoy stunning views, peaceful seclusion, and a one-of-a-kind connection to nature.
Start your day with a guided walking safari through the savannah—an unforgettable opportunity to get up close to giraffes, zebras, impalas, and waterbuck. Accompanied by a local ranger, you’ll learn fascinating insights about the wildlife and their natural habitat as you explore on foot.
After lunch and a bit of rest at the lodge, we’ll venture out again in the early evening for a peaceful water safari on Lake Mburo, where you can spot hippos, birds, and other wildlife from a whole new perspective.
After breakfast, we’ll set off for the breathtaking Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, nestled along Uganda’s western border. This lush, mountainous rainforest is home to the world’s largest population of silverback gorillas.
Enjoy a scenic drive through Uganda’s heartland, winding past rural villages, vibrant towns, and sweeping landscapes. Along the way, you’ll get a glimpse of daily life in the countryside.
We’ll arrive at the Ride4aWoman Guest House in the afternoon, where a warm welcome and delicious dinner await.
Today’s the day for the unforgettable gorilla trek! After a morning briefing, we'll be assigned to a specific gorilla family, along with an expert ranger and a small group of fellow trekkers.
With packed lunches, rain gear, and a sense of adventure, we’ll head into the dense rainforest. The hike can take anywhere from one to several hours, depending on the location of your gorilla family—but every step is part of the experience.
Once the gorillas are found, we’ll have one magical hour to quietly observe them in their natural habitat—a truly awe-inspiring, once-in-a-lifetime encounter.
Back at Ride4aWoman, roll up your sleeves for a hands-on workshop with one of the talented local artisans. Choose between weaving your own basket or joining a sewing project—either way, you’ll create something meaningful while learning new skills and supporting the women behind this empowering initiative.
It’s our final morning in Bwindi—and in East Africa! Take time to wrap up yesterday’s project, stroll through the village of Buhoma, and reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared.
Later, we’ll head to the Kihihi airstrip for a scenic one-hour flight back to Entebbe, where we’ll connect to our international flights home.
Optional Add-On: If your departure flight is later in the evening, you may choose to reserve a day room at the Karibu Guesthouse. It’s the perfect spot to relax, enjoy a shower, a meal, or even a nap before heading to the airport.
Over the course of this 15-night journey, you’ll experience a delightful mix of accommodations—from simple hotel rooms and charming guesthouses to luxury safari lodges and tented camps that feel straight out of a dream. At Travel on Purpose, we’re intentional about choosing locally owned properties that uplift communities and support the local economy.
That said, this is Africa—and some of our destinations are wonderfully remote. While most comforts are in place, be ready for the occasional cold shower or sluggish Wi-Fi. (Think of it as a digital detox… with elephants.) These hiccups are rare, but they’re part of the adventure—and well worth it for the experience of a lifetime.
Each morning, we’ll enjoy breakfast at our hotel or lodge, fueling up for the day’s adventures. Lunches and dinners will be a delicious mix—some at local restaurants, others back at our accommodations.
You’ll have plenty of opportunities to savor regional East African cuisine, while also enjoying international dishes, as most lodges and hotels cater to a wide range of global travelers. Dietary restrictions? No problem. Whether you're vegetarian, gluten-free, or dairy-free, the kitchens are well-equipped to accommodate your needs with care and creativity.
In a word—busy (the good kind!). Most days will be full of meaningful activities, with several early mornings—especially when it comes to game drives, since wildlife is most active at dawn.
That said, everything is optional. If you need to sleep in, skip an outing, or simply enjoy some quiet time, you’re always welcome to do so. We also intentionally build in free time most afternoons so you can rest, recharge, or explore at your own pace.
The only activity that requires significant physical effort is gorilla trekking. You should be prepared to hike anywhere from one to three hours through uneven, sometimes steep terrain. The good news? Our expert guides are patient, experienced, and always adjust the pace to fit the group’s needs.
While you don’t need to be a seasoned hiker, a reasonable level of fitness and a spirit of adventure will go a long way in making the experience enjoyable for everyone.
This trip is designed for both women and men who are looking for a different kind of African adventure—one that goes far beyond the typical safari.
Travel on Purpose journeys are crafted to connect curious, open-hearted travelers with the people and organizations making a real difference on the ground. If you’re eager to learn, engage, and be inspired, this trip is for you.
Through our local guides, nonprofit partners, and social impact businesses, you'll gain deeper insight into East Africa’s culture, challenges, and hope-filled solutions. It’s a travel experience that will spark wonder—and stay with you long after you return home.
"We didn't know what to expect from this trip, but we were deeply moved by the kindness of the local people and their joy, even in the face of difficult living conditions. At the same time, we were saddened by the level of poverty we witnessed. It was shocking to realize - though we had known it in theory - that education is truly the only way out of poverty, no matter your age.
Seeing this truth in action across different organizations, among people of all ages and skill levels, was absolutely eye-opening. During our trip, we were able to "run a short sprint" alongside them - but these organizations are running the lifelong marathon.
No one person can help everyone in need, but through consistent, small steps, each of us can give back and make a meaningful difference. And in giving even a little, I feel I received so much.
Thank you, Travel on Purpose, for making this travel experience real, educational, and spiritual. It taught me not only about others, but also how to become a better version of myself - by the grace of God!"

Dianne launched Travel on Purpose in 2021 with her biggest fan—her husband, Steve—cheering from the sidelines. Now, after leading dozens of small group tours across more than 15 countries, she’s thrilled to finally be bringing him along for his very first Travel on Purpose adventure!
If you haven’t met Steve yet, get ready for some laughs—and possibly a few lighthearted shenanigans. This will be his second time in East Africa, which is pretty impressive for a guy who thinks a three-hour flight is pushing the limit.
